WHY TETON VALLEY
Victor and Driggs sit on the west slope of the Teton Range, where the same peaks that draw millions to Jackson Hole rise over a valley with a fraction of the traffic. Living at Teton Flats puts the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, the Jedediah Smith Wilderness and the Big Hole Mountains on three sides of your apartment — and our guide to renting in Teton Valley covers what the lower cost of living actually looks like.
Most residents split their hiking three ways. Weeknights are for the close stuff: Moose Creek, the Mike Harris loops and Mud Lake are all under ten minutes away, and the paved Victor–Driggs Rail Trail starts practically at the property. Weekends head up Teton Canyon or Darby Canyon — both reached from the Driggs end of the valley (see apartments near Driggs) — for the marquee hikes: the Wind Cave, Table Mountain, Alaska Basin. And when the east side gets busy, the Big Holes west of the valley offer Horseshoe Canyon, Grove and Drake Creeks and Packsaddle Lake with almost nobody on them.
Hiking season on the valley floor runs roughly May through November, and the high country melts out by mid-July. In winter the same trailheads become Nordic and backcountry ski access — Teton Pass is 15 minutes away and Grand Targhee 45. There is no month here without a trail. For everything beyond the trails, see our guide to things to do in Victor.
QUESTIONS WE HEAR ON TOURS
Yes — more than 30 named trails and trailheads sit within a 45-minute drive of Teton Flats, and several (Moose Creek, Mike Harris, Mud Lake, the Victor–Driggs Rail Trail) are under 10 minutes away. The map above shows every major trail on both sides of Teton Valley.
The Moose Creek Trail short version (3.1 miles, 8 minutes from Teton Flats) and the paved Victor to Driggs Rail Trail are the easiest starts. Ski Lake, 18 minutes up Teton Pass, is the classic first alpine-lake hike.
The Darby Canyon trailhead is roughly 25 minutes from Teton Flats — north on ID-33 toward Driggs, then east up Darby Canyon Road. The 6.2-mile round trip passes waterfalls before reaching the limestone Wind Cave.
Yes. The west slope of the Tetons — Table Mountain, Alaska Basin, Devil's Stairs and Teton Canyon — is Caribou-Targhee National Forest and the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. No park entrance fee, no timed entry, and far fewer people than the Jackson side.
Teton Canyon Road, Sherman Park in Victor and the Mike Harris area are groomed or packed for winter walking, snowshoeing and Nordic skiing, and Teton Pass is a world-class backcountry ski zone 15 minutes from the front door.
